Of course, a Pressure Reducing Valve is only one part of a complete plumbing kit. While it protects you from water surges and pressure from the mains, we have other equipment to help protect your plumbing and pipes around the house or office.

A pressure-reducing valve serves two main functions. Firstly, they reduce the incoming water pressure from the mains, so your home system has reduced pressure, stopping wear and tear and potential damage to your pipes.

One more thing to keep in mind when sizing your tank: as a rule of thumb, it should typically be 1/3 full when cold and about 1/2 full when hot.

Fluids expand when they’re heated, and all heat transfer systems need to account for this. Expansion tanks do just as their name suggests – they give that expanded fluid a place to go. But how do you determine the correct size for the tank?

Water pressure

So if you’re heating the fluid from an ambient temperature of 70°F to 300°F, the Delta T would be 230. For this example we’ll use Duratherm 450’s thermal expansion rate of 0.0564%/F. So the formula would basically look like this:

First you need to know the Delta T. In this case, it’s basically the difference between your starting temperature and your desired system temperature. Multiply that by the fluid’s coefficient of thermal expansion.

Secondly, they help set a constant pressure for the pipes, ensuring your home appliances operate with safe and moderate water pressure.

These unions are designed between pipe made from dissimilar metals to prevent accelerated corrosion and deterioration in the piping system.

Let’s say in in this case your system capacity is 100 gallons. That means you’d need an expansion tank to hold an additional 13 gallons because based on the formula above, your volume has increased to 113 gallons.

Tempering Valves ensure consistent temperatures inside your home, preventing nasty scalding when turning on your taps. Further protection from scalding water or other water surge issues, Thermostatic Mixing Valves are most often used in aged care facilities, or homes with vulnerable people. They set a temperature, mixing hot and cold water just right.

Reece has leading brands such as Zurn Wilkins and Tomson valves. Most are set at 500 kPa, some can be adjusted, and we have valves to fit different pipe sizes.
