Greetings! I was wondering if there was any real difference in the connecting flexible gas lines (usually 36-60" in length) which run from the valve on the wall to the appliance. Some say they are for ranges, some for dryers, some for ovens etc. They all seem the same. Can they be used interchangeably (is the diameter is sufficient to deliver enough gas flow)? Is there a website which will define the connector types such as RD , etc...? Thanks in advance! Mark

the important feature of flexable supplies is that they are AGA aproved. there is a little ring on them that is marked "AGA approved". there are definately different diameters as well as different lengths. in the past few years they have approved flexable gas pipe. it comes in long rolls that we cut to length and apply our own ends. it's kinda like running 50 ft. of stainless flexable connector. there are of course a whole set of regulations for it and we had to go to special class and get certified to install. it's a snowy night in new england and i'm rambling on and on...

Most are limited to 48" max, with 36" being the ideal maximum. There are 3/8" ones for fireplaces, 1/2" for small furnaces, water heaters and dryer, and 3/4" for gas ranges. They only look the same as far as color and design, the difference is size is vary obvious to the casual observer.

That is a local issue. But the flexible lines themselves are definitely different sizes, not just the pipe connector ends.
