In most cases a pressure reducing valve needs to be able to sense the resultant pressure downstream of the valve. This is most commonly measured against an opposing spring tension or pneumatic force, which is set during the commissioning of the valve. The balance of these forces encourages the opening and closing of the main valve. The most common type of Pressure reducing valve is a self-acting type. Where Self-Acting requires no external power or input They can satisfactorily perform, over a wide range of pressures and flow rates.

Welcome to our website. If you disagree with any part of these terms and conditions, please do not use our website.

We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

A pressure reducing valve is generally used to reduce the pressure of a media from a high to a lower safe working pressure. However it can also provide a form of temperature control when utilised on a steam system. For example this could be used in process applications where a product is sensitive to high temperatures, causing product spoilage during the heat transfer process. In a saturated steam system the steam pressure is directly related to the steam temperature.

Pressure Reducing Valves should always be installed in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. In particular always insure; correct direction of flow, correct orientation, clear access for general maintenance and repairs. Pressure Reducing Valves can have various end connections such as flanged or threaded so installation will need to take this into account. Always ensure a pressure gauge is installed on the downstream side, to confirm set pressure. Always take into consideration the need for pressure relief or safety requirements downstream of the Pressure reducing valve. A safety valve may need to be installed and set at a suitable safe pressure  to avoid over pressurisation events.

This really depends upon the environment and the quality of the media that the valve operates with. The installation of line size strainers upstream of any Pressure reducing valve is highly recommended to reduce the amount of dirt and other impurities from entering the valve internals. A correctly selected and sized Pressure Reducing Valve should perform for many years. In particular with steam installations, it should be installed in accordance with good steam fitting practice and it is highly recommended that regular internal inspection of the valve is carried out at least once a year and cleaned or repaired as required. This will give the valve the best opportunity to continually operate satisfactorily for many years.
