Water Filter

I installed an Aquasana AQ-5300 about a year ago. Twice now (once at 6 months ago on first filter change, once today) when I’ve swapped out the filters, everything seems fine until I open the under sink cold water valve the whole way, at which point I hear what I believe is a water hammer sound, and then the filtered water stops flowing. When I partially unscrew the first of 3 filters, it seems to relieve pressure on the system and starts the flow again (while leaking everywhere). Once I screw it back in, the flow stops again.

My naive assumption here is that the water pressure coming out of my cold water valve is too high. Does that sound right? I looked at water pressure reduction valves online and there seems to be a wide gamut of what that means and what those cost, is that the right direction to go in? The filter is installed using the split valve that came with the kit; if I do want to use a pressure reduction valve, what’s the best way to install that - I don’t really want my cold water pressure to my sink to be affected.
