Water pressure

The range covers single stage and two stage pressure regulation for low and high pressure processes covering low and high flow rates.

Water hammer, which is a banging or hammering noise in your pipes, is a common sign that your pressure regulator is nearing the end of its lifespan. The noise happens when high-pressure water suddenly stops in your pipes, literally hammering into the pipe walls. You’ll probably notice water hammer after you shut off a fixture or flush a toilet.

Small overflow tanks that are connected to your water heating system. As water heats up, it expands in volume. Running directly from a water heater tank.

And since it connects to your wireless network, you get up-to-the-minute alerts no matter where you are. As soon as something out of the ordinary comes up, you’ll get a notification. The Shutoff will even close the water main automatically if it detects a leak to help prevent water damage.

Keeping the water pressure in your home at a safe level can help keep your pipes, fixtures and appliances safe. Pressure regulators help reduce high water pressure coming from your municipal supplier, but sometimes they need to be adjusted to either lower or raise your water pressure. Knowing how to adjust your pressure regulator and keeping a close eye on your home’s water pressure will help you protect your home.

Pressure regulators from Drastar offer a comprehensive range of pressure regulation products for regulating liquids and gases.

The reference or set-point spring pushes onto the sensing element and is one of the forces in balance when the regulator is in steady state. Usually the adjustment knob is turned to compress the spring, exert more force and increase the set-point. Alternatively a locking nut can replace the knob to deter adjustment.

Essentially we are looking at “Why would anyone purchase our particular regulators?” The answer falls within three main categories:

Either a piston or a diaphragm. Diaphragm regulators employ a thin disc shaped element which is used to sense pressure changes. They are made of convoluted 316L stainless steel (or Hastelloy) convoluted metal is used in special applications. Diaphragms are more sensitive as they eliminate friction effects. Piston designs are often used when higher outlet pressures are required, when ruggedness is a concern or when the outlet pressure does not have to be held to a tight tolerance.

With its roots firmly within the semiconductor industry, the manufacturing plant lives and breathes quality as a way of life. All regulators are oil-free and are assembled, cleaned, inspected and packed within clean-rooms.

Occurs in mechanical systems due to friction forces within springs and seals. For a given flow rate, the outlet pressure will be higher with decreasing flow than it will be with increasing flow.

Water pressure is one of the most critical measures of your home’s plumbing health. Not only is high water pressure damaging to so many components in your home, but sudden changes in pressure can be signs of other problems that need to be addressed. But how can you keep a watchful eye on your water pressure Here at Moen, we know all about the importance of pressure. Our Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff works by constantly measuring the pressure in your home’s water network in combination with the flow rate and area temperature. Not only that, it even performs daily automatic Health Tests, which are pressure loss tests on the entire supply line to detect a leak as small as one drop per minute.

Essentially the size of the hole through which fluid passes within the pressure reducing element. The larger the size, the more flow the regulator can pass. This orifice size needs to be calculated as over-sizing can result excessive pressure variation with only a slight turn of the handle (sensitivity) or may cause excessive droop.

A two stage regulator located on or near a gas cylinder used to reduce the high cylinder pressure to a lower more usable level. The two-stage reduction is used to maintain a steady outlet pressure.

Like most plumbing components, your water pressure regulator isn’t going to last forever. The average pressure regulator has a lifespan of about ten years. The question is, when do you need to replace it?

This needs to be completed with separate formulae for gas and liquid. As a general rule of thumb, select a regulator orifice size with double the calculated Cv. The definitions used are as follows:

Next, locate the water pressure regulator. Look for a “bell shape” that’s close to your water main and sits on top of the pipe. On top of the regulator should be an adjustment screw and a lock nut. The adjustment screw raises and lowers the water pressure, but before it can be adjusted, you need to loosen the lock nut below it.

Pressure reducing regulators generally utilize a spring loaded “poppet” valve as the method to reduce the pressure. The poppet operates with an elastomeric seat which is designed to give a good seal at a zero set-point. As the process fluid is introduced the spring force moves the seal away from the valve seat and fluid is allowed to flow from the inlet to the outlet. As the outlet pressure rises, the force generated by the sensing element resists the force of the spring and the valve is closed. These two forces reach a balance point at the set point of the pressure regulator. When the downstream pressure drops below the set-point, the spring pushes the poppet away from the valve seat and additional fluid is allowed to flow from the inlet to the outlet until the force balance is restored.

Pressure regulators are important because most municipal water suppliers pump water at very high pressures — often four or more times higher than your home can handle. That’s because municipal water sometimes has to service high-rise buildings, high-elevation neighborhoods or fire hydrants.

Takes a higher inlet pressure (P1) and reduces it to a controlled lower outlet pressure P2). The regulator therefore controls P2.

PressureReducing Valve

Before you start adjusting the pressure regulator, get an accurate reading on your home’s current water pressure. Attach a pressure gauge to any hose spigot and take note of the reading.

The accuracy is determined by charting outlet pressure versus flow rate. The graph then produced shows the drop in outlet pressure as the flow rate increases; a phenomenon known as droop. Pressure regulator accuracy is defined as how much droop the device exhibits over a range of flows; less droop equals greater accuracy. Each datasheet includes this graph.

Pressureregulating valve

Is the pressure above the set-point that is required to completely shut the regulator off by forcing the poppet “home” and insuring there is no flow. As an alternative, a tied diaphragm is linked to the poppet such that much lower over-pressure is required to completely shut the valve.

Water pressure is huge for the health of your home plumbing network. And while a high-pressure shower might feel great in the morning, water pressure can (and often does) get too high. Any sort of high water pressure will put stress on your home in a number of ways.

Remains closed until the rising inlet pressure reaches the desired pressure at which point the valve opens to release any excess pressure. The regulator therefore controls P1.

Water pressure regulators are devices that are installed near your water main. They take high pressure water flowing from a municipal water supply and lower the pressure to a level more suitable to homes and their fixtures. Any home built after the 1980s should have a pressure regulator already installed.

Loosen the lock nut by half a turn with the crescent wrench. Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise to lower the pressure or clockwise to raise the pressure. Only go one full revolution at a time and get a new pounds per square inch (PSI) reading with your pressure gauge. Once you’ve reached your desired pressure level, tighten the lock nut on the pressure regulator.

As far as plumbing jobs go, adjusting your water pressure regulator is pretty easy. You don’t need too many tools, and you can finish the task in less than an hour. If you experience a sudden drop in pressure, you might want to check in with the local water supplier and see if the problem is on their end before you make any adjustments.

Watervalve

Generally used for industrial, analytical and specialty gas applications where high quality materials are required but threaded connections are acceptable.

Probably the single most important feature of the range. The unique push and lock adjustment handle is pulled “out” when the user is looking to vary the pressure setting but pushed “in”, and therefore locked, during normal day to day use. This eliminates inadvertent re-setting of the pressure and any resulting safety and process issues.

If you notice regular fluctuations in pressure and have to frequently adjust the regulator valve, it’s probably time to start looking for a replacement. Having a new water pressure regulator professionally installed will set you back a few hundred dollars. But it’s a worthwhile investment considering the risks of leaks, pipe bursts and appliance failure that can result from a faulty regulator.
